Brampton City HallThe City of Brampton is a city in the Region of Peel, situated in northwest of Toronto, Ontario.  It is the third largest city within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) comprising of a total land area of approximately 270 square kilometres.  Brampton’s boundaries run from Highway 50 (Vaughan) to the East, Winston Churchill Boulevard (Halton Hills) to the West, Mayfield Road (Caledon) to the north (except for Snelgrove, a small neighbourhood, which forms part of Brampton despite its location on the north of Mayfield Road) and the Hydro Corridor (Mississauga) to the south.

The name “Brampton” originated from the rural town of Brampton, Cumbria, England.  Brampton was incorporated as a village in 1853 and has gradually grown into one of the fastest-growing cities in Canada today with an estimated population of 510,000 in 2010.  The majority of the residents are immigrants from South Asia.  Other ethnic groups include With the median age of 33.7, it is the youngest community in the GTA.  Its economy is diversified with 68% services-producing and 32% goods-producing.  The growing multicultural labour force supply is about 6% per year. 

Brampton’s proximity to the Pearson International Airport, sustainable infrastructure of highways and rail, cost of land, population growth and its favourable business tax structure, has made it a preferred location for many corporations to set up their headquarters, factories and warehouses, thus providing a lot of job opportunities for its residents.  Its prominent greenhouse industry has earned its title of “The Flowertown of Canada”.  Major employers in Brampton include Loblaws, Chrysler Canada, Maple Lodge Farms, Bacardi, Brafasco, Clorox Company, Rogers Communications, HBC/Zellers and Canadian Tire.

Bramalea, Heart Lake, Professor's Lake, Snelgrove, Tullamore, Mayfield

Rural villages of Huttonville and Churchville still exist as unique communities.
